Hill of Grace is Australia's most revered single-vineyard Shiraz, grown on ungrafted vines planted in the 1860s in the Gnadenberg valley of the Eden Valley. The 2022 is deep crimson with ruby hues, its bouquet layered with blackberry, blueberry and plum wrapped in five-spice, black pepper, violets and cedar. On the palate, mulberry and dark forest fruit sit atop fine acidity and velvety, layered tannin, the result of twenty months' maturation in seasoned French oak hogsheads that allow fruit and site to speak clearly rather than the wood. Critics have described the vintage as fresh, detailed and exotically spiced, with exceptional texture and elegance for a wine of this scale. Built for the very long haul, a realistic cellaring horizon of thirty years or more, though its silky tannin already makes it approachable. An occasion wine, best paired with roast duck, venison or a beautifully marbled eye fillet.
