From Domaine Armand Rousseau, custodian of some of Gevrey-Chambertin's finest grand cru holdings across four generations, this 2022 Chambertin is a monumental wine even by the domaine's exacting standards. The nose offers supremely ripe black cherry, plum and cassis fruit layered with warm spice and an unmistakable floral lift. On the palate the wine carries real weight and concentration without ever feeling heavy, the fruit wrapped in the fine, chalky tannin and mineral drive that define this hallowed limestone slope. Length and persistence are exceptional, the finish returning again and again to dark fruit, spice and a savoury, earthen undertow. This is a wine built for patience: a decade at minimum in a good cellar before it begins to show its full complexity, with a drinking window stretching well beyond that. Reserve it for the finest occasions, paired with roast squab, aged Comte or a simply prepared piece of venison.
